Wednesday, September 30, 2009 Was invited to a veriety show for the over-55s on Saturday. Thought it would be more interesting to photograph the audience rather than the acts.
Tuesday, September 29, 2009 Surely it gets no better than this. I think I've hit my journalistic peak by fulfilling the cliche of covering a story about a lost cat.
Monday, September 28, 2009 Defence minister Quentin Davies came to the base last week to announce a £400m upgrade to the UK's Chinook fleet. He loved the camera. Did pretty much everything I asked.
Sunday, September 27, 2009 I was at a WW2 dinner and dance last night. It provided me with the best semi-visual gag of the day.
Saturday, September 26, 2009 Party political conference season is underway. I had great fun today hanging out with the Monster Raving Loony Party who were not only bonkers, but also thoroughly accommodating. Their leader Howlin' Laud Hope even brought forward their shadow cabinet reshuffle by a couple of hours so I could watch.![]()
Friday, September 25, 2009 Arriving at her hen do with a huge group of her mates in a stretch-Hummer. I was there waiting for them. They were a fun bunch.EDIT: Just been CC'd into the following message: "Thanks again for recommending Andrew. He was a true professional and the images were great and had been uploaded by the time I woke in the morning ! Really nice guy and all the girls loved him". Any time :)
Thursday, September 24, 2009 Following my visit to the military rehabilitation hospital at Headley Court last week, on Tuesday I had a tour of the Blatchford factory where prosthetic limbs are designed and manufactured. I shot a series of available-light reportage portraits of staff at all points along the production line. I also got to quiz them on their work and was blown away by their level of expertise.
Wednesday, September 23, 2009 DJ Pete Tuck is coming out of retirement. I went a shade overboard with the red gel in celebration.
Tuesday, September 22, 2009 Dragons' Den veteran Levi Roots was in town last week, plugging his new book Caribbean Food Made Easy.
Monday, September 21, 2009 Patrick and I had a visit to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court near Leatherhead on Thursday. We were particularly interested in telling the stories of military personnel who had lost limbs through active service. It was one of the most humbling things I've done for ages. I took a bunch of photographs of Sapper Gregg Stevenson who lost both his legs to an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan. Most of the photographs were of him with his new prosthetic legs, but it was this frame which I liked the best. I thought it was more subtle to leave only a minor trace of the prostheses and instead emphasise Greg himself and the determination he's putting in to his rehabilitation.
Sunday, September 20, 2009 Anna Williamson is the presenter of GMTV's Toonattik.
Saturday, September 19, 2009 Today was Finn's first birthday. He's had great fun ripping up paper and ignoring most of his presents. The exceptions are a drum stick and the latest addition to his "That's not my..." collection. It's scary how quickly the last year has gone but it's been a total privilege to share it with him.
Friday, September 18, 2009 Had a fascinating, if brief, visit to an ice cream dairy this week. Beautiful-looking jersey cows, which are automatically milked by a robotic, laser-guided arm. One of the most bizarrely futuristic things I've seen for ages.
Thursday, September 17, 2009 Julian kicked my ass in the blind javelin accuracy event.
Wednesday, September 16, 2009 I'm in the process of getting a stack of postcards printed as a wedding marketing tool.
Tuesday, September 15, 2009 Spotted this combine harvester in a field as I drove past on Saturday. Stopped and chatted to the farmer who gave me the ok to go back after dark. Twisted Chris's arm into modelling for me.
Monday, September 14, 2009 Edward "Teddy Sheringham" Sheringhands was a Trent End hero from my days standing on the terraces as a season ticket holder. Cloughie's failure to replace him when he left for Spurs at the start of the '92-'93 season was one of the reasons Forest were relegated. I saw Teddy on Saturday. I didn't tell him how I felt about this. Maybe next time.
Sunday, September 13, 2009 I photograph a charity bike ride on average once every 78 days.
Saturday, September 12, 2009 A three-frame salt-beef photostory. ![]() ![]() ![]()
Friday, September 11, 2009 I had a last-minute invitation into the operating theatres yesterday. It's been a while since I've seen surgery up close. Hats off to all the crew.![]() ![]()
Thursday, September 10, 2009 Get this - a branch the size of a tree fell from the top of a tree and crushed the fence and bench directly beneath it. If someone had been sitting on the bench they would have been killed. No doubt about it.
Tuesday, September 08, 2009 I was out shooting stock today when I stumbled by chance upon a RED-HOT story about the suspicious death of a hedgehog.
Monday, September 07, 2009 John is the Sales and Marketing Director at Mechtronics and Optoelectrics firm GTK. Rich and I went to see him at his new premises and he showed us his toys.![]()
Saturday, September 05, 2009 Was down in Bournemouth yesterday to shoot a series of promotional portraits of singer Marisa Billitteri. I had a pair of 500ws studio lights with me which I used for the bulk of the work. They're great, and were giving a gorgeous light quality, but from fairly close in were giving me f11 on their lowest setting. I wanted less depth of field for the last set up so I plumped for an SB-800.
Friday, September 04, 2009 Using the brolly at the art show was a squeeze but I managed to avoid tripping anyone or knocking paintings off walls.
Thursday, September 03, 2009 I normally try and avoid taking photographs of face-painting but thought I'd make an exception here.
Wednesday, September 02, 2009 I bumped into Aaron while out at a job on Monday. I was trying to hack a clean white-background from a small, dirty projector screen. Aaron helpfully modelled for me while I waiting for my subject to show up.
Tuesday, September 01, 2009 The guys and gals from Amazing Animals were in town yesterday. Massive queues. Definitely a hit.
